    Delta-Q QUIQ Charger Troubleshooting Guide.

     

    No Lights at all (All Models)

    No lights at all indicate that ac power to the charger is not connected or that the AC voltage is too low.

    1) Check the connections to ac power. Check for AC voltage between 104 and 260 VAC at the charger.

    2) If the AC voltage is verified to be correct at the connection to the charger, and the charger still displays no lights at all, return the charger for service.

     

    FAULT LED Flashing (All Models).

     

    The Fault LED flashes to indicate the micro controller inside the battery charger has  detected a fault. The number of flashes indicates the fault detected. Count the number of flashes to determine the fault.

    With any battery system, the most common problem will be a faulty battery connection.

    Because of the high likelihood of a battery connection problem, it is always worthwhile to confirm that all connections are good before checking for any other problems.

     

    NOTE:

    There are 3 different part numbers for the Delta-Q charger. All chargers operate in the same manner. Differences include: physical appearance, such as face plate labels;

    charge algorithm selection (as noted in instruction manual for each); harnesses; and charge modes (0606-00523/0606-00678 and 0606-00623/0606-00723) each have an optional PRC (Pack Recovery Charge) cycle for recycling GEL batteries ONLY.

    [1 Flash]

    0606-00423 - High Battery Voltage (Auto-Recovery)

    1) Indicates either a battery failure or an open circuit. Check the battery connections. Check the battery for an open cell. Confirm the battery is in good condition.

    2) This fault will automatically clear and the charger will restart charging when this problem is removed.

    3) High battery voltage could also occur if there is another source charging the battery. Disconnect any other sources during charging.

    0606-00523/0606-00678 & 0606-00623/0606-00723 – Temp Out Of Range

    1) The battery is too Hot or too Cold to charge.

    [2 Flashes]

    0606-00423 - Low Battery Voltage (Auto-Recovery)

    1) Indicates a battery failure, no battery connected, or a lower than expected battery voltage. Check the battery and battery connections.

    2) Check the nominal battery voltage. The first two digits of the four-digit model name indicate the battery voltage it supports. Confirm that a nominal battery voltage is the same as the charger voltage.

    3) This fault will clear automatically when the low battery voltage problem is rectified.

    0606-00523/0606-00678 & 0606-00623/0606-00723 – Battery Voltage Is Out Of Range

    1) The battery voltage is too High or too Low to allow charging to proceed.

    [3Flashes] -Charge Timeout

    Indicates the battery failed to charge within the allowed time. This could occur if the battery is of larger capacity than the algorithm is intended for. In unusual cases it could mean charger output is reduced due to high ambient temperature.

    1) Check the battery for damage such as shorted cells and insufficient water. Try the charger on a good battery.

    2) If the same fault occurs on a good battery, check the connections on the battery and connection to ac.

    3) Confirm that the nominal battery pack voltage is the same as the battery charger voltage.

    4) This fault must be cleared manually by unplugging the ac, waiting 30 seconds and reconnecting the ac power.

     

    [4 Flashes] -(DOES NOT APPLY TO 0606-00523 or 0606-00623)

    Check Battery. This fault indicated the battery pack could not be trickle

    charged up to the minimum level required for the normal charge cycle to be started.

     

    1) Check that none of the battery pack connections between modules are reversed or incorrectly connected.

    2) Check that one or more cells in the battery are not shorted.

    3) Confirm that the nominal battery pack voltage is the same as the battery charger voltage.

    4) Try the charger on a good battery. 0606-00678 & 0606-00723

    AC Shutdown; Auto-recover. Charger has shut down due to AC line voltage going out of range. Charger will restart when AC voltage comes back in to range and the SMC interval has elapsed.

    1) Verify AC line voltage is above 104VAC.

    [5 Flashes] -Over Temperature

    This fault indicates the charger has become too hot during operation. This extra fault indication (as opposed to the flashing ammeter described above) indicates an even higher temperature was reached inside the charger. Though not damaging to the charger, charge time will be extended significantly.

    1) This fault indication will not clear automatically, but the charger will restart charging automatically when the temperature drops. The fault indication must be cleared manually by unplugging the ac, waiting 30 seconds and reconnecting the ac power.

    2) If possible, install the charger in a cooler location.

    3) Confirm that dirt or mud is not blocking the cooling fins of the charger. Clean the

    charger. Rinse the charger with low-pressure hose if required. Do not use high pressure. Do not use a pressure washer.

    [6 Flashes] Delta-Q QuiQ Fault

    This fault indicates that the batteries will not accept charge current, or an internal fault has been detected in the charger. This fault will nearly always be set within the first 30seconds of operation.

    1) Try to clear the fault by unplugging AC power, waiting 30 to 60 seconds, and then reconnect the AC power.

    2) Check all battery connections. Look for a high resistance connection. The most likely reason for this fault is a fault in the battery such as a bad battery connection, an open cell, or insufficient water, or poor/incorrect charger connection.

    3) This fault will occur if an internal open circuit situation has been encountered. If the green wire is shorted to ground even momentarily this may cause an open circuit internally. To check for the open circuit, measure with an ohmmeter between the green and red wires with the ac disconnected. If a short circuit is not measured, the circuit is open. Return unit to a service depot to have the unit repaired or replaced.

    4) For software revision 0.81 or older, this fault may indicate that the input or output voltage went out of range. Check input and output connections before returning the unit to a service depot. Charger may need to be brought to a service depot to have its software upgraded. Refer to the lower right hand corner on the back of the Product Manual to determine the software revision.

    5) If this fault occurs after battery charging has started, confirm that ac power was not interrupted and that all battery connections are good.

    6) If all battery connections are good, an internal fault has been detected and the charger must be brought to a qualified service depot.

     

    AC LED Flashing

     

    Flashing of the AC LED indicates the AC voltage is low. On older model chargers, it could also mean AC voltage is too high. Low input voltage results in longer charge times, but does not affect the charge quality. High AC input voltage will prevent charging.

    1) When using an extension cord, make sure it is a grounded 3-wire 14 AWG  gauge cord of 25' length or 12 AWG gauge cord of no more than 50inch length.

    Ammeter Flashing

    A flashing ammeter indicates the charger has reduced the charging current due to highinternal temperatures during charging. This condition results in longer charge times, but does not affect the charge quality.

    1) Provide better airflow to the charger.

    2) Try to move the charger to a cooler location.

    3) Confirm that dirt or mud is not blocking the cooling fins of the charger. Clean thecharger. Rinse charger with low-pressure hose if required. Do NOT use high pressure. Do NOT use a pressure washer.

     

    80% LED Flashing

     

    This LED is used to indicate the selected charge algorithm. The 80% LED will only flash for the first 10 seconds of operation if a battery is not detected.

    1) Check battery connections.

     

    100% LED Flashing

     

    This LED flashing indicates a finish phase. This phase can last for several hours and indicates normal operation.

     

    80% & 100% LED Flashing

     

    Indicates charger is in PRC (Pack Recovery Charge) mode.

    1) Charger will revert to previous set algorithm after this charger cycle has completed.

     

    AC LED ON, Charger Won't Start Charging

    The charger must detect a good battery before it will start charging.

    1) Confirm battery connections are good.

    2) The nominal voltage for a lead acid battery is 2 V per cell. For example, a 72V battery will have 72/2 = 36 cells.

    3) If the battery voltage is greater than 2.5V per cell, the charger will not start charging.

    4) If the battery voltage is less than O.5V per cell, the charger will not start.

    5) For software revisions 0.81 or lower, the charger will not start charging if the battery voltage is less than 1 V per cell. Refer to the lower right hand comer of theback of the Product Manual to determine the software revision.

     

    (Single LED Flashing Green (0606-00623 & 0606-00723 ONLY))

    On units with a single, multi-color LED, flashing green indicates one of two things: normalcharging or battery algorithm display. The battery charge algorithm will only be displayed for ten seconds if a battery is not detected.

    1) If the LED flashes green at a rate of once per second, the charger is chargingthe battery. The duty cycle (amount of time the LED is on, compared to the amount of time the LED is oft) indicates the state of charge of the battery. If the LED is on most of the time, the battery is nearing full charge.

    2) If the LED flashes slower (one flash every 1.5 to 2 seconds), or flashes a number of times and then pauses, a battery has not been detected and the number of flashes indicates the charge algorithm. Refer to the Product Manual for more information. The battery charge algorithm will only be displayed for the first 10 seconds of operation when a battery is not detected, and then a fault will be displayed. Check all battery connections if the algorithm is displayed when abattery is connected.

    Single LED Flashing Yellow

    The flashing yellow on a single LED model indicates normal charging with reduced output current due to higher charger internal temperatures, thermal cutback. Though the charge time will be longer, the quality of the charge will not be affected.

    1) Provide better airflow to the charger.

    2) Try to move the charger to a cooler location.

    3) Confirm that dirt or mud is not blocking the cooling fins of the charger. Clean the charger. Rinse charger with low-pressure hose if required. Do not use high pressure. Do not use a pressure washer. The flashing yellow on a multi LED model indicates low AC line voltage (see also ‘FAULT LED 4 Flashes’ above).

    Single LED Flashing Red

    Excessive Battery Watering Requirements or Strong Sulphur (Burnt Egg) Smell These symptoms indicate over-charging or high battery temperature. These symptoms are unlikely to be caused by too high a charge current since the maximum charge current of the charger will be small compared to even a moderately sized battery pack.

    1) Confirm that the battery pack is not too small- usually (greater than) > 50Ah.

    2) Confirm that the nominal battery voltage matches the charger output voltage.

    3) Confirm the correct battery charge algorithm. If the battery pack is new, the algorithm will need to be changed if the pack is not the same as the old one.

    Refer 5 to the Product Manual for instructions on how to determine and change the battery charge algorithm. Best Installation Method For the preferred conditions for installation, read "Determine Mounting Location" under "Installation Instructions" in the Product Manual, OR consult the GEM Service Manual.

    When mounting the charger it is best to locate it in a position best situated for maximum air flow and ventilation to keep the charger running cool at maximum efficiency.

     

    Changing the Battery Charge Algorithm

     

    The mode to change the battery charge algorithm can only be selected during the first 10 seconds of operation. Refer to “Check/Change Charging Algorithm” in the Product Manual. If the 10-second window is missed, cycle the AC power by unplugging the charger, waiting 30 seconds, and then reconnecting AC power.

    1) 0606-00423 Disconnect the charger positive connection by cycling the MDS (Master Disconnect Switch) to the OFF position. Apply AC power, observe self test LED operation. When the bar graph is flashing a single LED, turn the MDS ON for 3 seconds. Count 100, 200, 300, OFF. The LED should advance to the next number/algorithm. Continue to count in 3-second intervals until the desired algorithm is selected. When you reach this point turn the MDS to the ON position for a minimum of 10 seconds or at least until you hear a click sound. The charger has now accepted the selected algorithm and stored it in its permanent memory. Allow the charger to run a full charge cycle before vehicle operation.

    2) 0606-00523/0606-00678 - Disconnect the charger positive connection by cycling the MDS (Master Disconnect Switch) to the OFF position. Apply AC power, observe self test LED operation. The charger will indicate a flashing LED on the 80% icon. Ex. 13 = Flash, pause, Flash Flash Flash, pause repeat, etc. Turn the MDS ON for 4 seconds. Count 100, 200, 300, 400, OFF. Observe the change in the LED operation and count the lights. Continue to count in 4-second intervals until the desired algorithm is selected. When you reach this point turn the MDS to the ON position for a minimum of 10 seconds or at least until you hear a click sound. The charger has now accepted the selected algorithm and stored it in its permanent memory. Allow the charger to run a full charge cycle before vehicle operation.

    3) 0606-00623/0606-00723 - Disconnect the charger positive connection by cyclingthe MDS (Master Disconnect Switch) to the OFF position. Locate the DC-DC converter located under the dash area to the lower passenger side. Disconnect the 2-pin White/Green plug from the converter.

    *IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE LATEST UPGRADE SURE POWER BRAND DC CONVERTER UNIT BEINSTALLED WITH THE DELTA-Q CHARGER FOR BEST VEHICLE PERFORMANCE AND CHARGER OPERATION. Apply AC power and observeself-test LED operation. Continue with instructions following Step 2 above from charger 0606-00523.

    Replacing a faulty controller.

     There are a few things you have to check before you replace your faulty controller.

     •           Check the electric motor. Make sure there is no short circuit or high resistance. The motor must have the right resistance. See article Advanced motor - testing and repair on knowledge base.

    •           Check the solenoid if it have the right resistance and test if it works. See article How to test a solenoid on knowledge base.

    •           Check all the wires A1, A2, F1, F2 or S1, S2, speed sensor wire, harness and connectors for dirt and fractures.

    •           Charge your batteries, how lower the voltage and current are in the batteries how higher the resistance is in the batteries and wires.

     

    After the check and when everything is all right, you can replace your new controller.

    Periodic maintenace

    To ensure trouble-free vehicle performance, it is very important to follow an established preventive maintenance program. Regular and consistent vehicle maintenance can prevent vehicle downtime and expensive repairs that can result from neglect. Any vehicle not functioning correctly should be removed from use until it is properly repaired. This will prevent further damage to the vehicle and avoid the possibility of injury due to unsafe conditions. Contact  CARRUS to perform all repairs and semiannual and annual periodic service.

    PERIODIC SERVICE SCHEDULE

    WARNING

    Service, repairs, and adjustments must be made per instructions in the appropriate section of this manual.

    If any problems are found during scheduled inspection or service, do not operate the vehicle until repairs are made. Failure to make necessary repairs could result in fire, property damage, severe personal injury, or death.

    NOTE: If the vehicle is constantly subjected to heavy use or severe operating conditions, the preventive maintenance procedure should be performed more often than recommended in the periodic service and lubrication schedules. Both the Periodic Service Schedule and the Periodic Lubrication Schedule must be followed to keep vehicle in optimum operating condition.

     

    Periodic service schedule – Electric vehicles.

    Lubricate brake system per lubrication schedule.

    Check brake cables equalizer adjustment, adjust if necessary.

    Check brake cables for damage, replace if necessary.

    Electrical wiring and connections.

    Check for tightness and damage, replace if necessary.

    Front wheel alignment and camber.

    Check and adjust as required.

    Annual service by owner or trained technician (every 100 hours of operation or 200 hours of golf)

    Batteries ( For vehicles equipped with theBatteryfilling system)

    Manually check battery electrolyte levels of all cells to verify correct valve operation.

    Batteries.

    As batteries are not performing as expected.

    Pedal group.

    Lubricate all rotating joints.

    The Handheld Diagnostic Unit is an excellent device that provides troubleshooting, tuning, programming and warranty retrieval applications for E-Z-GO Electric RXV & 2Five Vehicles. Accessing the diagnostic functions is simple through the 5-control navigational buttons which display the menu options. The menu interface also allows the user to enable the Freedom speed profiles and monitor various vehicle data; to include rounds played, mileage and drive time. This unit also has a vehicle recoginition feature that automatically syncs with the vehicle to provide menus and readings applicable to the vehicle (RXV or 2Five). The diagnostic device also provides the user with the ability to download new software when an older software version has been detected.

    Please Note: This diagnostic system should ONLY be used on E-Z-GO Electric RXV and 2Five Vehicles with a Danaher Speed Controller.

    When you have problems with your EZGO PDS golf cart, the ones with the forward/reverse switch on the dash. You can enter the golf cart into diagnostics mode to help findout what is wrong with it.

    To enter PDS diagnostics mode turn the key switch off, move the run/tow switch to run, move the direction switch from neutral to reverse 5 times. Your cart will beep to confirm you are in diagnostics mode. Soon after, the carts diagnostics code will beep out your code if there is a problem. After receiving your beep code move the run/tow switch to tow.

    CHARGING A BATTERY PACK THAT HAS LOW VOLTAGE.

    If battery pack is below 34 volts, the charger will not activate. The charger relay will have to be bypassed to activate the charger.

     

    • Knowledge of battery charger wiring and component terminology is required before attempting any repair.
    • Prior to servicing the charger, disconnect the AC power supply cord from the wall outlet and the DC plug from the vehicle charger receptacle.
    • Do not touch any wire or component in the battery charger while AC power is present. Failure to heed this warning will result in an electric shock.
    • Do not leave the vehicle unattended while it is charging. A charger orperating with a bypassed relay could short circuit and possibly cause fire.
    • The relay wiring must be properly connected prior to placing the charger back into normal service. failure to properly connect the relay wiring could result in property damage, severe persenal injury, or death.

     

    1. Turn key switch OFF and place the Forward/Reverse handle in the NEUTRAL position. Leave the batteries connected.
    2. Disconnect the AC power supply cord from the wall outlet and the DC plug from the vehicle receptacle.
    3. Remove the screws securing the charger cover and remove the cover from the charger.
    4. To apply AC power directly to the transformer primary coil, the relay must be bypassed. To bypass the relay, remove the orange wire from the AC circuit breaker and diconnect the brown wire from the relay. Connect the brown wire to the AC circuit breaker.
    5. Plug the DC cord into the charger receptacle first, and then plug the AC cord into an electrical outlet.
    6. The charger should activate and begin to charge the batteries. Allow the charger to operate for one or two hours.
    7. After one or two hours, disconnect the charger Ac cord from the electrical outlet first. Then disconnect the DC  cord from the charger receptacle in the vehicle.
    8. Disconnect the transformer wire from AC circuit breaker and connect it to the relay. Connect the short orange wire from the relay to the AC circuit breaker.
    9. Install the charger cover and retaining the screws.
    10. Plug the DC cord into the charger receptacle and plug the AC cord into the electrical outlet.
    11. Allow the charger to continue charging the batteries until the charger dhuts off automatically.
    12. When the charge cycle is complete, test the batteries again. If the battery pack voltage is above 34 volts and the vehicle will not operate, it will be necessary to troubleshout the vehicle's electrical system to determine wich electrical component has failed.

    Your Club Car has an on-board computer for the single purpose of turning on or off your Club Car charger. When the batteries are fully charged this computer tells the Club Car charger to remain off. Or when the batteries are in need of charging this same computer tells the Club Car charger to turn on.

    We have replacement chargers who are fully automatic. those are mostly cheaper than the original CLUBCAR POWERDRIVE chargers. The microprocessor within the charger senses the voltage level of your Club Cars’ batteries and turns on or off automatically. The procedure to bypass your Club Car’s computer is simple and will take very little of your time. The diagram in pdf file gives a detailed visual of your Club Car’s setup and the only wiring needed to bypass your on-board computer.

    Can I use all tires sizes on my 8 inch standard golfcar rims and can I use all aluminium 8 inch rims that are available at the Carrus webshop for my standard golfcar?

    The most brands are using the same rims and tires sizes on their golfcarts. They use 8 inch centered steel rims mounted with 8 inch (18*8.50-8 tire size) tires. All 8 inch aluminium rims that are available on the Carrus website are usable on standard golfcarts only when they are mounted with 18*8.50-8, 18*9.50-8 or 215/60-8 tires. For all other tires sizes you have to lift your golfcar with a liftkit to increase the space between your tires and inner fenders.

    Some rims are wider than the standard steel centered rims, but will fit with the recommended tires.

    The following parts numbers are rims that will fit on a standard golfcar.

    WARNING

    • Turn the key switch OFF, remove the key, and leave the Forward/Reverse switch in the NEUTRAL position during storage.  This is to prevent unintentionally starting the vehicle or a fire hazard.

    • Do not attempt to charge frozen batteries or batteries with bulged cases.  Discard the battery.  Frozen batteries can explode. 

    • Batteries in low state of charge will freeze at low temperatures.

    • To avoid exposing electrical components to moisture and subsequent damages, do not use any type of pressure washing or steam cleaning equipment to wash the vehicle.

    • Place Tow/Run switch in the TOW position.

     

    PREPARING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE FOR EXTENDED OFF-SEASON STORAGE

     

    • 1. Fully charge batteries. Charge batteries before placing in storage.
    • 2. Batteries should be clean and free of corrosion. Wash tops and terminals of batteries with a solution of baking soda and water (1 cup (237 mL) baking soda per1 gallon(3.8 L) of water). Rinse solution off batteries. Do not allow this solution to enter the batteries. Be sure terminals are tight.Let the terminals dry and then coat them with Battery Terminal Protector Spray.
    • 3. Store vehicle in a cool, dry place. Protected from the elements. This will minimize battery self-discharge.
    • 4. Disconnect from equipment to eliminate potenial parasitic loads that may discharge the battery.
    • 5. Batteries gradually self-discharge during storage. Monitor the specific gravity or voltage every 4-6 weeks. Stored batteries should be given a boost charge when they are at 70% state of charge or less.
    • 6. Adjust tires to recommended tire pressure.
    • 7. Perform all semiannual periodic lubrication.
    • 8. Thoroughly clean front body, rear body, seats, battery compartment, and underside of vehicle.
    • 9. Do not engage the park brake. Chock the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
    • 10. Keep batteries fully charged during storage.

     

    NOTE ONLY FOR CLUBCAR with powerdrive charger: The OBC keeps track of the time spent in storage mode. When the OBC detects that the storage charge cycles may have depleted the available electrolyte, it will stop the charger from further operation.

    - Leave battery chargers plugged in during storage. The onboard computer (OBC) will automatically activate the charger when necessary.

    - If the battery charger is left plugged in during extended storage, check the electrolyte level and charger function monthly to ensure that proper operation is maintained.

    - To check charger function, disconnect the DC cord (stationary charger) from the vehicle or the AC cord (onboard charger) from the power source, wait five seconds, then reconnect it. The charger is functioning properly if the ammeter indicates current.

    Disconnecting then reconnecting the DC cord (stationary charger) or AC cord (onboard charger) indicates the electrolyte levels have been maintained and allows the OBC to resume operation.

    While in storage, the Tow/Run switch should be in Tow.

    When in Tow mode, the amber battery warning light will not illuminate.

    Do not attempt to use the battery light as an indication of battery state while in storage.

     

    - If AC power is off for 7 days or longer, the OBC will not function or charge the vehicle again until it has been restarted. To restart the computer, make sure AC power has been restored, disconnect the DC cord (stationary charger) from the vehicle or the AC cord (onboard charger) from the power source, wait fiveseconds, then reconnect it.

     

    CAUTION

    • Be sure to check the batteries and charger monthly to maintain correct battery water level and to ensure the charger is operating correctly during storage.

    - If the charger cannot remain plugged in, AC power will not be available during extended storage, or electrolyte levels will not be maintained, then disconnect the batteries for storage. 

    RETURNING THE STORED ELECTRIC VEHICLE TO SERVICE

    1. If necessary, connect batteries.

    2. Fully charge batteries.

     

    WARNING

    • Do not attempt to charge frozen batteries or batteries with bulged cases.  Discard the battery.  Frozen batteries can explode.

    3. Adjust tire to recommended pressure..

    4. Perform the Pre-Operation and Daily Safety Checklist.

    Just a few carts come with no ACR which are CarryAll II, CarryAll 252 and the XRT 900’s 

    The ACR stand for Automatic Compression Release. This type of engine was the clockwise model, which means the clutch rotates clockwise. You can only put this type of engine in a Club Car gas key start vehicle. There are two types of clockwise FE 350's. Those with the ACR, which are for key start only, and those without the ACR, which are for pedal start only. The only difference in the two is the camshaft. On the backside of the ACR camshaft there is a spring gear which is the mechanism for the compression release. So by changing the camshaft either way you could have either engine. The worst part any Club Car 350 engine (not considering the new style) is that they have lifters in them. The lifters act as tappets which ride on the camshaft and force the push rods to open the valves. Much unlike a tappet though, they compress in when the push rods put force to them. That is because of the springs which are located inside of them. Now these lifters pump up with oil and release the oil when compressed by the push rods. Oil travels from the oil pump, through a small brass filter, then through a small opening in the block, next it arrives at the first lifter, goes around it, through a small opening, and hits the last lifter. The problem is that the lifters have a small hole in the side of them which MUST be lined up with the small hole on the inside of the block where the oil travels. If they do not line up then the oil is not properly being pumped into the lifter. And when the lifters are not working, your engine is not working. Alot, and I mean ALOT, of times you'll hear a tap in the engine, which nine times out of ten is the push rod tapping the lifter because the lifter is not compressing. In which case the lifter will need rebuilding, and I would just as quickly suggest that new lifters be put in. But thankfully Club Car has noticed the problem and now build the 350's like the 290 model, in that they use tappets instead of the lifters. However you now have to adjust the valves, which I just really loved the fact that you didn't have to do that with the older style 350 engines, but it's no big deal. Just set each valve at .004inch. and that takes care of them. One more thing, if you should ever find yourself trying to take your camshaft out e-mail me at servicedesk@carrus.com  and leave your phone number and I'll call you back and we will walk through it together. But if your impatient like me then be sure to take the head off and remove the lifters. When you replace the camshaft make sure you line the slot in the end of the camshaft up with the oil pump.

    Can I use all tires sizes on my 10 inch golfcar rims and Can I use all steel and aluminium 10 inch rims that are available at the Carrus webshop for my standard golfcar?

    The most brands are using the same rims and tires sizes on their golfcarts. They use 8 inch centered steel rims mounted with 8 inch (18*8.50-8 or 215/60-8 tire size) tires. All 10 inch steel and aluminium rims that are available on the Carrus website are usable on standard golfcarts only when they are mounted with 205/50-10 tires. For all other tires sizes you have to lift your golfcar with a liftkit to increase the space between your tires and inner fenders.

    Some rims are wider than the standard steel centered 10 inch rims, but will fit with 205/50-10 tires.

    The following parts numbers are rims that will fit on a standard golfcar when they are mounted with 205/50-10 tires.

    How to change the Rearend / Axle Oil in a Club Car Golf Cart

    Club Cart golf carts need the rearaxle / rear end oil changed periodically. Here is how you do it.


    1: Take your golf cart out for a spin for about 15 minutes to warm up the oil for faster draining.

    2: Park your golf cart on a level surface. Put an oil pan under the cart’s rearend. Ether use a 14mm socket or wrench to remove the rearend drainplug (see pic). You can use a jack on the opposite side to tilt the rearend up enough to make sure you get all the oil drained. If you have a pump with hose you can get even more oil out.

    3: After draining the oil, replace drain plug and take out the fill plug. You can use a oil pumpto fill it back if you have one. If no you can use a funnel and small hose. Your tubing should fit loosely in the hole so that air move around it while filling. You can remove the panel behind the seat and drop the oil tubing down to fill the rearend with oil. The manual calls for SAE 30w oil. You can use a heavier weight gear oil for added protection but the manufacturer says 30w it the way to go.

    4: Fill the rearend with oil until it starts to run back out of the hole. When you reach that point you are full.

    5: Reinstall the filler plug and clean off any oil that leaked around the rearend. Your Done.

    The programmable Alltrax electric motor controllers such as the AXE ( series wound montors) and the DCX ( shunt wound motors) include an RS232 communication port.

     

    This port can be used to adjust user settings such as throttle type, power settings and speed settings.

    The E-Z-GO VPS Field Kit is a Vehicle Performance System which allows the owner or operator to customize operational characteristics of the E-Z-GO vehicle. It also functions as a safety feature by limiting the top speed of the vehicle. The E-Z-GO VPS Field Kit has three different settings detailed below that allow the car to be "shifted" quickly. The system is key operated (separate from the ignition key), and can be removed to prevent the operator from changing settings.

    A Brief History of E-Z-GO Golf Carts

    The E-Z-GO company was started on June 13th 1954 in a garage in Augusta Georgia by two brothers, Billy and Beverly "Bev" Dolan. This was the day after Bev had gotten out of the military. The very first golf carts they built used military surplus 24 volt motors which originally operated the wing flaps on the B-17. They ran these motors on a 36 volt battery stack.

    Once they got started they moved the production to Grovetown Georgia to have them assembled at a machine shop owned by Paul Corley. See the History of Pargo for an interesting side light to this story. In 1960 they sold their company to Textron. The head of Textron at that time was Royal Little who bought E-Z-GO because of his love of the game of golf. Royal retired at the end of 1960. Billie and Bev both stayed on board until 1978 when Billy Dolan left with some other employees and investors to purchase Club Car which at that time was located in Texas.

    They later moved the company to Augusta Georgia where it remains to this day. All of the golf carts produced ran on batteries until 1971 when they introduced a 175cc model 17-CES 1PG two cycle Robin version. They used this four bolt head Robin engine made by Fugi Heavy Industries until 1975. In 1976 they came out with a six head bolt model EC25-DS 244cc two stroke Robin engine also made by Fugi. This engine also had an internal starter/generator that was kept until mid 1980. In mid 1980 they introduced the external Hitachi starter/generator. This model EC25-2PG engine was used until 1988. In 1989 until 1993 they used the model EC25-3PG 244cc two stroke Robin engine. In 1991 they came out with their first four stroke engine , a 295 cc, 9 hp one which was replaced by a 350 cc four cycle in 1996. In 1997 Textron bought out Cushman and continues to manufacture Cushman industrial vehicles as well as their E-Z-GO line of golf carts and industrial vehicles.

    The programmable Alltrax electric motor controllers such as the AXE ( series wound montors) and the DCX ( shunt wound motors) include an RS232 communication port.

    This port can be used to adjust user settings such as throttle type, power settings and speed settings.

    It can also be used to monitor operation of the controller real time.

     

    The program runs on Microsoft Windows based machines, laptops or desktops using simple user friendly controls.

    The PowerDrive Plus vehicle uses a 48-volt electrical system that is powered by six eight-volt lead-acid batteries and includes an onboard computer. The electrical system in a PowerDrive Plus vehicle uses a shunt wound 3.2 hp motor and includes several additional features.

    • Shunt Wound Motor: Unlike a series wound motor which increases or decreases the current flow (amperage) through the armature and field coils at the same rate, a shunt wound motor is able to vary the amount of amperage passing through the field coils separately from the current flow passing through the armature.
    • Motor Braking: Under certain conditions a shunt wound motor also has the ability to act as an electrical brake to slow the vehicle. There are three features of the PowerDrive Plus electrical system which will activate the motor braking function: Zero Speed Detect, Pedal Down Motor Braking, and Pedal Up Motor Braking.

    The PowerDrive Plus vehicle is equipped with a 48-volt DC, shunt wound, reversible traction motor. The shunt  wound motor is designed for use on the PowerDrive Plus vehicle only. Club Car recommends motors requiring major repair be sent to a qualified motor repair shop. However, there are many relatively simple tasks that can be performed by a technician with general knowledge and experience in electric motor repair.
